Hi A Taylor,

Glad you found the information for woodworm of use. Woodworm can cause a lot of damage and can be fairly hard to cure sometimes. Chances are the woodworm is dormant but it can be a good idea to keep an eye on the area every couple of weeks for a month or so just to be safe. Good luck with buying your house and thank you for taking the time to post up your comment.

I am in the process of buying a house (76 years old) and the survey has just come back with 'wood boring infestation is affecting roof void'
Just had a timber specialist in and he said it is 'dormant'
The site was a good source of information, as I hadn't a clue what they were or what they quite did etc, you just hear 'wood worm' and you know it can be bad news.
Thx

Hi Mike,

The image of the floor may be either Varnish, Lacquer or an oil finish. It is a high gloss finish but the finish could still be wet when the photo was taken making the floor appear more shiny. I achieved a high gloss finish on a oak hardwood floor with Lacquer.
The product I used was
http://www.transtools.co.uk/store/prod_7489/painting-and-decorating/floor-v arnish-and-wax/ronseal-contractor-floor-lacquer-gloss-5-litre.html

Hope this helps

Hi Grace,

Danish oil is great finish. Urethane can be used after to seal the timber and provide extra protection. If you think the timber may require this it would be good to use it.
You can also apply wax after the Danish oil to achieve a beautiful finish, but wax will not provide the protection urethane would.

Good luck with your woodwork project and thanks for your comment.

Thanks for the info on natural finish for wood. We're in the process of making a stump into a coffee table base. We're planning on using Danish Oil so it was good to see it contrasted to other finishes. We had heard that we should use urethane afterwards but I don't think it is necessary anymore. We'll see how it turns out :)

Hi Steve,

Hardwood worktops will last a lifetime if cared for correctly. Timbers such as Oak, Beech, Iroko are long lasting and look fantastic. There are many more hardwoods available. Did you look at our kitchen worktops page?

Hi Tony,

Built in cupboards are a great way to save space, keep your home looking tidy and will transform the appearance of a room. Built in cupboards are simply a frame with doors and shelves if required.
The frame and doors determine the look of your cupboard from plain doors to raised and fielded panels.

We will add some useful information for built in cupboards with images in the near future.
Thank you for your contribution.
